legacies

Welcome! Legacies is an 18+ SFW Warriors fan roleplay featuring the descendants of the four forest Clans in an all-new territory, with new histories, new conflicts, and new cultures to explore. Here you'll find some introductory information about the rules, setting, and recent RP events - most of what you might want to know when creating a new character, all in one place.

rules

1. Don't be a dick.
Respect people's boundaries, don't antagonize, don't escalate, don't insult, don't steal. We're all here to have fun. If someone establishes a boundary with you, don't push it. Being a dick includes addressing other people by slurs you are reclaiming. If you think someone is asking you to do something unreasonable, bring it to staff's attention in private.
2. Give proper credit.
Don't use artwork that isn't yours to use - e.g. don't repurpose other people's OCs for yourself. If you're posting art or photography that's not your own, include credit to both the artist and the website you found it on. Using/posting AI art/photography is a bannable offense on this server.
      Proper credit can be:
      - Artist name on website (ex. Bonefall on Tumblr)
      - Direct link (ex. https://bonefall.tumblr.com/post/741701444868145152/gift-art-of-an-anthro-patron-bumble-my-partner)
      - Images with legible watermarks/signatures (ex. photos like this)
      Proper credit is not:
      - Artist name only (ex. Bonefall)
      - Website only (ex. Pinterest)
      - "Not mine"/"can't find the source"/etc
      - Curator sources (ex. felinefractious on tumblr, warriorsgraphics on tumblr, etc)
Using picrews is fine with proper credit.3. Stay in touch.
Legacies is a pretty casual RP that welcomes spectators, but we do ask that you don't go on complete radio silence on us! Give a heads-up if you need to take a hiatus, and be aware that characters who miss two consecutive monthly activity checks will be (salvageably) swept from the RP. The only thing Legacies requires to constitute activity is 2-3 sentence updates once a month, whether you actually did any RP or not.
4. Power-playing, metagaming, godmodding, etc.
The usual - don't write other people's characters, don't try to take the setting/worldbuilding out of staff's hands, don't pull OOC into IC or vice versa. Play by the rules of the setting, play your own characters, and don't break the game. We have a rolling system for a reason.
5. Spam.
Spamming any channel, harassing specific users, etc. will lead to a timeout and potentially a kick or ban. Give people time to respond, and be aware that most people don't appreciate strangers blowing up their notifications and burying their conversations for no reason.
6. Safe graphics.
Don't post fast-moving or flashing GIFs - or, preferably, don't post GIFs at all. You won't get in trouble if you do post GIFs or animated emoji, but if something is determined to be a hazard to people prone to seizures and/or motion sickness, you'll be asked to remove them.
7. Keep it screen reader-friendly.
Don't misuse letters from different languages, emoji, or unicode symbols for decoration, and try to keep your post embellishments in general to a minimum.
8. Content.
Warriors can be an extremely dark and disturbing series at times, and Legacies is an RP that welcomes nuance and complicated topics. We do need to draw a line somewhere, however, and that line is at explicit abuse, NSFW, and gratuitous gore. If portraying something severe isn't a necessity, don't portray it. You can reference that it's happening, but we don't want to trigger the survivors in our company. Sensitive topics should always be marked with obvious warnings and hidden in spoiler tags ( ||spoiler tags|| ). Be aware as well that enacting your own bigotry through RP violates multiple rules here and won't be tolerated.
9. Age.
This should be a no-brainer, but Legacies is intended for an adult audience and clearly marked for ages 18 and up. If staff finds out you're lying about your age to be here, you will be kicked and denied entry until you're older.

CHARACTER SUBMISSION FORM

The form below is what all players must fill out and submit for staff review in order to introduce new characters to the RP. Submitted character forms must fit within the character limit for forum channel posts, meaning they cannot span multiple messages and should not rely on external links of any kind. Images, external profile links, etc can be reserved for a "character feed", a player-customized forum post about their character(s) - the submission form is for introductory basics only for staff tracking and new player introduction purposes. All character submissions go in the allegiances channel on the main discord server. Please do not send submissions to tumblr or staff DMs, and be aware that while staff may provide feedback on WIP submissions on the waiting room server, submissions will only be accepted from the appropriate channel on the main RP server.

Name: Exampleclaw
Pronouns: he/him
Age: 60 moons
Allegiance: StormClan
Rank: Warrior
Legacy: Choose one or more from the list in the lore channel!
Short Description: A short-furred brown tabby tom with menacing amber eyes.Personality: positive trait; neutral trait; negative trait
[[ Describe your character's personality in 2+ sentences. ]]
History: [[ Describe a few highlights of your character's backstory in 2+ sentences. This should be more than the names of mentors/family members; tell us what your character is known for among their peers, and/or what drives them. ]]

CHARACTER CREATION GUIDE

  1. Choose a name and pronouns for your character. Check faction pages for information on naming traditions; you can also find more detailed information about this in the faction FAQ posts on the server. If you're submitting a character as part of a limited rank audition, this is the best place to indicate it, ex. Exampleclaw (audition)

  2. Choose an age. Legacies uses the following age brackets for characters; 1 moon = 1 month, both in-RP and in real life.

  • Kitten (0-8 moons) - Kittens open their eyes at around 2 weeks (0.5 moons), and are mobile by 3 weeks; the average kit learns their first words between 1 and 2 weeks and is a confident speaker by 3 moons, fluent by 4 moons. Most major growth spurts start at around 4 moons

  • Adolescent (9-20 moons) - This can vary significantly by cultural standards. Adolescent cats are at the cusp between kitten and adult, developing emotional, social, and sexual maturity within this age range. Romances in this age group get messy fast, tend to be shallow and short-lived, and are very likely to slide into social power imbalances. Adolescents who are 12 moons or older can have kits. Please remember to warn and spoiler for all sensitive material regarding underage pregnancies.

  • Young Adult (21-50 moons) - These cats are of generally-accepted kitting age, and most cats who have kits have their first litters in this range. Serious long-term relationships often start here. Young adults can romance significantly older cats; they are consenting adults. This does not mean that there is no such thing as an exploitative or predatory relationship with a significant age gap, either, but healthy relationships with large age gaps starting in this range are entirely possible. Please remember to warn and spoiler for all sensitive material regarding exploitative and abusive relationships.

  • Mature Adult (51-120 moons) - These cats are in their prime. Many in this age group have adult kits and are comfortable with where they are in their lives. Major persistent health complications may start to crop up in this range.

  • Senior Adult (121-160 moons) - This is the range where old age starts to set in. Most adult cats die in this range from natural or environmental causes and are more likely to develop permanent conditions as their younger days catch up to them, but they can still be active hunters and fighters.

  • Geriatric (161 moons) - Cats who make it beyond this point are exceptionally lucky or may have supernaturally extended lifespans. Feral cats at Legacies do not live past 220 moons without supernatural intervention. These cats usually have severely diminished mobility and sensory acuity. Chronic pain and hearing and vision loss are extremely common in this age group.

  1. Choose a faction. Please be aware that character submissions to factions not currently marked as open will not be accepted, as the full breadth of necessary information for joining that faction is not available.

  2. Choose a rank. Available ranks vary from group to group, so make sure you know what the ranks in the group you want to submit to before you post your submission.

  3. Choose one or more legacies. These are notorious cats from the history of the RP; your character's legacies are the legacies they are part of through familial connections, superficial resemblances, historical impacts, ideological alignments, etc. Every character must align with at least one legacy. If you want to create a new legacy, ask staff for help.

  4. Describe your character's appearance. Legacies characters must have natural colors and believable patterns, but they do not need to be perfectly genetically accurate or completely realistic.

  5. Choose three personality traits - one positive, one neutral, and one negative. Legacies does allow cruel and abusive characters, as long as those characters' players keep that behavior clearly in-character and do not portray abuse egregiously, fetishistically, or in an otherwise offensive manner. Refer to the rules if you're unsure about our content restrictions and how they work.

  6. Describe your character's personality. This can be as elaborate or concise as you want, just remember to warn and spoiler for sensitive content and keep in mind that your character submission must fit in a single message.

  7. Describe the most important parts of your character's history. The history section does not need to be completely in-depth, but should highlight all major elements that staff may need to weigh in on with regards to RP rules and worldbuilding.

character faq

How many characters can I play?
As many as you can manage - remember that every character needs to keep up with activity checks to stay in the RP. Legacies doesn't enforce hard limits on character quantity, and staff will only reach out if you have a significant multitude of characters (4 or more) consistently not making appearances in RP channels.
        How do drops work?
You can drop OR submit one character per month. If you submit a character in January, you can't drop any until February; if you drop a character in September, you won't be able to submit a new one until October. Please think carefully about your character submissions, and be aware that staff may contact you if you are consistently dropping characters shortly after submitting them.
        Can we make NPCs?
Yes, but they must be close relations of your RP characters only - best friends, mates, kits, parents, siblings, found family, mentors, apprentices. These NPCs must be adoptable as well if they are still living; we don't want to overcrowd the RP with named NPCs. More distant relations must be created by another player.
What happens when someone drops a character?
When you drop your own character, you get to decide how that character leaves the rp - you can kill them off, have them leave the main territories, have them go missing without a stated cause, retcon them out, or adopt them out to another player. Your design, characterization, and story for your characters stays with you; Legacies acknowledges and accepts that character ownership rules like forced adoptions are unenforceable. When someone else drops a close relation of your character, you will have the option to retcon in an adoptable substitute character with a new design, personality, and backstory. Legacies will never ask you to RP grief, loss, trauma, etc after a character drop if you do not want to do so. If another player has ghosted your plot, staff will help you either get things back on track or plot an alternative character into the same role. Substitute characters will always be new and different from the characters they sub in for, and are expected to be played as distinct individuals - you're not replacing or reprising a dropped character, you're filling a plot hole.
Can we make collab characters/premade families/etc?
Absolutely. Collab characters that are developed jointly by more than one player should still only be played by the person who submits them, but there are no rules against making duos, trios, etc of matched characters and submitting them concurrently. Just be aware that all character submissions are subject to the same rules, so it is possible for one collab character to be accepted and another rejected if they aren't submitted correctly.
        How do kits work?
Legacies handles kittings through limited ranks - whether your character is new or not, you need to audition to play a nursing parent, and that audition should include information about your character's kits. You can plan a litter in your audition in one of two ways:
- Create adoptable NPC kits that will enter RP when your character's audition is accepted. You can post adoptable kits anytime before, during, or after your audition, but they will not enter RP canon until your audition has been accepted.
- Ask for a random litter from staff in your audition. You will not have to create adopts in this case. Staff will instead roll a random litter for you when your audition is accepted, and those kits will be posted as adoptable NPCs.
Can I submit a kit with no parents?
No. You may adopt a kit character who was abandoned or orphaned in their backstory, but every kit must have at least one guardian in RP. That said, a kit's guardians do not have to be biologically related to them, and may meet their kit for the first time in-RP. The important thing is that you must have a guardian planned for your kit from the start.
If a kit character becomes orphaned through RP events, at least one active adult character must be chosen as that kit's new intended guardian.
        What is a limited rank?
"Limited rank" is the catch-all term Legacies uses to refer to any rank that has a limited population, be it by in-universe rules (ex. Clan leaders and deputies) or for political and mechanical balancing purposes (ex. rogues and nursing cats). We use "limited rank" instead of "high rank" because this term encompasses more than positions of political power.
What are the requirements for playing a limited rank?
This can vary for some ranks, but generally speaking you must stay on top of activity checks and post to at least 1 new thread each month. Limited rank characters will often be in high demand for interactions with the rest of the cast, and many plot events will rely on limited rank characters being available to participate. If you're struggling to keep up with these requirements, you can always get in touch with staff to plot out a narrative work-around, and/or to negotiate a drop or demotion.

dice guide

Legacies uses DiceParser for a fairly simple optional rolling system, intended to add a random element to RP without asking players to track individual character stats or EXP.The way this works is through a pair of custom commands, namely /r check and /r save. You are allowed to roll directly in the thread you're playing in if you prefer, or you can do your rolls in #🎲-dice That said, please do not spam RP threads with dice rolls. You may only roll the dice twice per post. If you're doing test or luck rolls, please keep those in #🎲-dice .Whenever your character sets out to accomplish a task, such as crafting, hunting, fishing, gathering herbs, treating ailments, fighting, climbing, etc, you should first refer to the following guide to determine how difficult that task is - and how many successes you will need to complete it.To roll, simply start with /r check and follow the instructions provided in the results prompt. A partial hit or a miss will require you to use /r save to determine additional outcomes on your roll.On normal solo rolls, you may keep rolling as long as you like until you have gotten the required number of successes to finish the task. In combat, rolls continue until the first character accomplishes their goal. Some RP events may limit how many rounds you have to succeed. Multiple characters may roll toward the same objective, including during combat. You may only roll twice per post. After failing or succeeding at a task, you can start a new one in the same thread if you want to.Do not roll dice for social actions. This includes charming, intimidating, deceiving, etc - these should be based entirely on what plays out in dialogue. You may roll dice to decide how your character handles another's advances, but you cannot under any circumstances use the dice to control other players' characters.

modifying the system

Not only is this dice system completely optional to use outside of event threads, you are allowed to use and modify it however you like - but only in non-event threads. To offer up some examples:        - If Character A is a warrior and Character B is an apprentice, Character B may need more successes than Character A does to win the fight.
        - If Character C is a talented hunter and Character D is not, Character C may need fewer successes than Character D does to catch something.
        - If Character E is physically stronger or weaker than the average cat, they may add a modifier to their /check and/or /save rolls by adding or subtracting a specific value appended to the command - e.g. /check+2 or /save-1. These values may be subjective per scene or static for all rolls.
        - You may impose a limit on how many rolls you have to succeed at your task.
You are also allowed to both RP without any dice and to use your own rolling systems outside of event threads. The most important thing is that you make sure all involved players agree that any RP rules used are fair. You can't force another player to use dice in ways they don't want to, nor can you force anyone to go along with a ruleset they find unfair. You also can't tell someone they can't roll dice the way they want when they are not playing with you. This is a matter of personal boundaries and what you personally are and are not willing to do. Please do not assume player consent before using dice in any way; you should try to check in about this with your RP partners before starting and be willing to stop or change if your RP partner asks you to.The only place on Legacies where the rolling system is staff-enforced is in monthly supply threads, as we use the outcomes of these threads to plan out world events and track faction health. Participating in these threads is also completely optional.
